What we do
Our business areas
LIVE
Virtual live production
We have been producing virtual live shows since 2018. Our starting point was a problem the VTuber live scene had at the time: lighting and audio work had not caught up with the technology. We built a system that lets live operators from the physical world step into a Unity live setup without a learning curve, and we have been running it as vortex since 2023. That is what lets us listen closely to the show an artist or a client has in mind, and direct it into technology and staging without losing anything in the translation.
STUDIO
Studio operations
vortex owns its own production studio in Tokyo and uses it for a wide range of work. It runs an OptiTrack system for motion capture of CG characters, streaming facilities for both 3D and 2D, a lighting desk that handles virtual staging, and wireless audio for recording and streaming with several performers at once. There is also a soundproof booth for vocal and instrument recording, and waiting rooms for performers and staff.
VOYAGE
On-site event production
vortex began with virtual live production, and VOYAGE is the next stage of that work. The name means a journey, and the team produces virtual live shows anywhere in the country, in any format. The team started in 2023 with Shinkai Fes. It works both with our own system, which carries an artist's video, audio and lighting from our studio to the venue, and with an on-the-road approach that takes the motion capture system to venues across Japan.
HUB
VTuber community
We run a community that pushes live culture forward, built on one idea: holding a virtual live show should be an ordinary thing for every VTuber. We also hold community-based live events on a regular basis. vortex itself grew out of a crowdfunding campaign, and alongside client work we produce our own events, so that more virtual artists have somewhere to perform. The Discord community vortexHub has passed 200 VTuber members. In its first year it held more than 20 events with over 60 performing artists. vortex will keep contributing to the VTuber live industry and the culture around it.
ARTIST
VTuber management
vortex does not only make live shows, it builds the scene they belong to. Finding artists no one has heard yet, and carrying what they could become out into the world, is what we are here for. vortexARTIST is a VTuber management service run by people who work in music and live performance. We take an artist's ambition seriously.
